Fegos Restaurant Review 2017

Myself and hubs were invited to Fego Restaurant in Sevenoaks for a evening of food, wine and more importantly we were childfree for the evening as Bear and Bell both went to spend the night at my cousins house. Where they ended up in bed at 10pm!

We first popped into a local pub where many of the parents I babysit for go for a night out, which had a very busy feel to it and stressed bar staff, so When we arrived in Fegos we were met by a friendly, smiley member of staff who took us to a table near the back of the restaurant. The chairs were really comfy and covered in a purple fabric with modern lighting hanging over the table.

The restraunt felt very relaxed and the atmosphere was very easy going and informal. The restaurant felt very open with a glass front and a small seating area outside which made the building feel like it was just a constant flow through.

We were offered a menu and a drink, unfortantly I was driving so I had a soft drink as I wanted to pop up to the cocktail bar which is above the restraunt after our meal.

On the menu they offer small plates and big plates, the small plates can be used as a shared starter or a small main. There is a choice for vegetarians and vegans there are about 5 in total. We were recommended the Beef Carpaccio, which is beef with a teriyaki, truffle mayonnaise, paramasan and sesame seeds. The dish was nicely displayed and  really flavoursome and the truffle mayonnaise, teriyaki, parmesan cheese and sesame seeds worked really well with the beef. Hubs wasn’t too keen as the beef came out very rare but I wasn’t complaining as I do love my beef rare.

We then had our mains which I choose the Lamb cutlets with Chimichurri and the new potatoes with Rosemary and Garlic. Hubs choose the lasagne but when he ordered the gentleman who served us managed to persuade hubs to try the 8oz Rib-eye steak with mushroom and red wine gravy with sweet potatoes fries.

We were expecting the steak to come out as one piece with the gravy over it but it came out in chunks in a bowl served on a wooden platter with a little dip on the side. The beef was cooked medium rare and  It was very tasty. I didn’t tell hubs about the mushrooms as he isn’t keen but he loved it!

I admit when I ordered the lamb cutlets I was expecting getting two or three but i got a nice size potion with runner beans underneath, The lamb cutlets was cooked to be medium-well done and was very scrumptious, it also went well with Sweet potatoes fries and the new potatoes.

There was a great choice of sides which suit everyone and they also do pizzas and salads which both looked amazing!

As everyone who follows my blog, Instagram know I love my desserts, so to be offered the desert menu was the best part,  and have a choice of desserts I have once just glanced at in other restaurants just to choose the chocolate brownie or apple crumble I decide to try something new! I couldn’t decide on what i wanted the dessert menu looked incredible, in the end Hubs choose the peppermint crisp pudding which was had a strong  peppermint flavour but also very fresh . I had the lemon posset and oh my goodness, it was awesome! the flavours were just right and the posset  just melted in my mouth.

Everything we ate tasted really fresh and made to your  order instead of being batched cooked ready to be reheated.

After dessert we popped upstairs to the cocktail bar, its is quite small but the atmosphere was very upbeat and has a positive vibe about it, but still had the laid back feeling. There was a great choice of cocktails and even if the cocktail wasn’t on the menu the staff were very happy to make what you want, so hubs asked for a black Russian and it was made up by a helpful barman (who was just visiting from his own restaurant  for the evening!)

The bar man also gave hubs a tip on when asking for a black Russian ask for it without the coke as it tastes much better which Hubs totally agreed on!

Fego are very family friendly and have a great selection for the children to choose from, there is even enough choice for Bear who is very fussy! There is also a breakfast and lunch menu. They cater for everyone and are very flexible about amending or taking of something your not keen on  a dish,  you can also hire out upstairs for meetings, functions and other get together , and the price per head starts as little as £15 which to me is a great price for a evening out which friendly staff and a great atmosphere.

My overall experience is very positive, the service was great, the atmosphere was very laid back and easy going, the food is amazing and extremely tasty. Usually after a meal out I feel hungry about two hours later but I felt really full for ages afterwards. I can see myself hiding out here when Bear and Bell are both back at school and pre-school. I can also see myself taking the children here for breakfast, a spot of lunch or a early dinner. The only down side is that the toilets are down stairs but there is a lift for those less abled bodied, but on a plus side to this you can take a peek inside the kitchen whilst the chefs are cooking you may even get to hear them sing they are quite talented!

Now I have forgotten the Burgers, on the way out someone was served a burger and oh my goodness they looked very tempting! We will certainly be going back soon!

Trying new foods…..

Bear is the most fussiest child I have ever know.

I admit this is probably because when he was younger I only gave him foods I knew he would like and still did it when Bell came along.

When Bell got to weaning stage at (5 months, The NHS advise from 6 months). I knew 100% she was ready she was eyeing up my homemade Yorkshire pudding, so I gave her a bit and she loved it!

I always encouraged from a young age that they sit at the table with us, whether or not they were just having a bottle or having a cuddle whilst we ate. I think it’s a great way to encourage good eating habits and a good way of socializing. I remember many Saturday and Sunday’s sitting round the table with the whole family. We still do this now on a Saturday, which is great. Unfortunately due to swimming and other family commitments its getting harder and harder to do.

I love getting them to try new foods especially now they are bigger. Bear is getting better since he started school last year he is slowly but surly becoming less fussy.

Bell on the other hand was eating Calamari at 8 months old. And she has certainly gained so much confidence in trying new foods. We know she is ill when she point blanks refuses to eat, unlike Bear!

We try to eat a mixture of different foods from around the world, we love choosing the healthier choices. I made a Prawn curry from India (made it far too spicy!) from scratch, I have made Chinese sauces from scratch to. I try and make chips from scratch too but they usually end up half cooked or cooked but soggy as I don’t like deep fat frying. I think its important to add different foods into the mix too.

I try and cook from scratch as much as possible, it can be hard with working and busy family life. The processed food we eat is limited to once maybe twice a week as they contain too much salt and added artificial ingredients, which we don’t need. When I cook from scratch I never add salt even if its in the recipe, as many of the ingredients can contain salt already.  Please don’t get me wrong I do use processed food when we are in a rush as they are quick and convenient but I do also cook home-made.

My favorite food is Risotto unfortunately hubby is a fussy eater and will eat it as he turns his nose up which doesn’t help when Bear is so fussy too!

Bears favorite food is Chips and ketchup (full of sugar and salt so this is very limited!!)

Bells favorite food is pasta with cheese

Hubby’s favorite food is Sausage and mash

My aunt always says to try everything at least 20 times, and you know what I actually agree!

As a special treat once in a while Bear and Bell’s favorite restaurant is currently Wagamamas. I really do not mind this special treat as everything is cooked from scratch, the juices are freshly made and the ice lollies are also home-made. The service is quick and it save’s little people getting too bored!
