Learning, books and Ipads

When I was younger, there wasn’t Google, Yahoo or ask jeeves to search your research we used books.

Everything now a days you can find out from searching the Internet, whether that’s from your phone, tablet, laptop or computer. Everything is at the touch of a button.
Even some schools  relay on Internet for children to search for information if they are doing a project.

This got me thinking about when Bear and Bell start to research for projects or wanting to find out more about something they have learnt at school. Will I allow them to just jump on the Ipad and search what they want to know, or will I encourage them to find a book and read from there what they need to know…

As you may know if you follow my twitter and Instagram I love books, and I mean LOVE books,  I really wish I had a bigger place so I could start my own library, with a comfy chair and some lovely cushions… I can dream.. anyway what was I saying…

So you may of gathered by now I would 100% encourage them to read books to find out the information they need.

Why will limit the amount of time let them use the tablets?

Technology devises give of small amounts of radiation, which isn’t good for anybody!

It encourages poor posture and strains the eyes.

It over excites the brain! Which then would make the children not be able to fall asleep easily.

You can get so many different books to find out information, you can get books from places you visit, books for helping learn maths, about your body, flap books, feely books the list goes on and on.

And reading a book is so much more beneficial then sitting on a tablet/Ipad, as you can’t guarantee the correct spellings or punctuation on the website! Maybe I am such a book worm that I really hope that one day Bell and Bear will love reading as much as I do.

Fun Bath Time Ideas!

Bath times can be either stressful or calm. Either way bathtime can be very repetitive.
Here are a few fun ideas to keep your little ones entertained in the tub. I promise they are super easy, easy to clean and cheap

  • Shaving foam paint… Shaving foam and food colouring.
  • Colour themed bath… do you have lots of yellow ducks floating about? Why not change the bath water to yellow, add some rubber ducks and a few yellow balloons.
  • Disco bath… Glo sticks and bubbles
  • Read a story… why not read a story whilst in the bath a great one my two love is “Going on a bear hunt” beware through the floor does get a bit wet!
  • Music… play some music outside the bathroom, calming music works well as it calms your little ones down…. hopefully!
  • Add ice to the bath…
  • Why not buy some glow in the dark shapes and Bluetax them on to the tiles for a space, insect, dinosaur or princess theme.

You can buy glo sticks and glow in the dark shapes from eBay or Amazon  for super cheap!

My Christmas wish list

How is it that Christmas will soon be upon us?

The shops are already getting Christmas bits in, but hardly any sign of Halloween bits.

It Has got me thinking of my christmas  wish list.

What do I really need?

What Would Be practical?

So here is my Christmas wish list for 2016

  1. Canon EOS 1200D DSLR Camera with 18-55 Lens – Grey. I would love a camera to use instead of my Samsung Galaxy S6

  2. Asus VivoBook E200 11.6 Inch Atom 2GB 32GB Laptop. I so need a new laptop. My current one keeps going funny and loosing the screen image!

  3. Sanctuary Salt Scrub. Everyone needs a pamper once in a while don’t they? And with a busy household why not bring the spa home instead.

  4. Kind Natured. I have never heard of these products before but they smell amazing and would be great for day to day use.

I also would love a BMW mini cooper 5 doors but I think I am pushing my luck with this one!

What is on your Christmas wish list?

Why I shouldn’t be here…

Watching somebody die whether it’s from old age or a long term illness is horrible.  But so is loosing a child. I’ve been lucky (touching wood frantically!) I have two healthy, clever, bright children. Who do push the limits, who do scream and shout, who do 1001 things they shouldn’t do but overall I always think how lucky I am.

I technically should not be here, I should of died when I was a year old because of NHS waiting lists for open heart surgery. My nan phoned the hospital up and demanded that I had surgery or I wouldn’t be here in a fortnight’s time, luckily a space came open and I had open heart surgery not once but twice and I survived.

I came close to death a 2nd time when I was 18/19, I had appendixes they almost burst, my windpipe collapsed during theater and I had to be revived. (I survived again!).

My third and hopefully last until I’m old and annoying! Was when I had Bell. C-sections are not easy, I lost 2 liters of blood, if they couldn’t get the blood to stop I would of bleed to death.

It goes to show how strong and how advanced the NHS has come. Many people used to die during c-sections, during basic operations.

I feel lucky I am alive!

Embrace life, take it in your hands and don’t look back on the past, unless it’s happy memories of course!

Liebster Award

What are the Liebster Awards?

The Liebster Awards are to promote new blogs. You answer a series of questions and and then set your own questions to ask.

Before I start a Big thank you to Nina Spencer who writes Ready for a Cuppa Blog. Her blog is a very good read I must say.

I know a few new bloggers by a few I mean a two! So I have put a ask on Twitter and of course Facebook to ask if anybody would like to take part.

There is a blogger community and I am still all new to Blogging that at the moment it doesn’t feel like part of the family just yet! Give it a few more weeks I am sure I will change.

So Here are the rules:

  1. Write a blog post about your nomination, displaying an image of the award.
  2. Thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.
  3. Answer the 11 questions the person who nominated you asked you in his/her blog post.
  4. Nominate 5-11 other starting bloggers who you think deserve this award, and come up with 11 questions of your own for them to answer.
  5. List these rules in your blog post.

So first of all I need to answer the questions I was sent …

  1. What or who inspired you to blog?  I was first introduced to Blogging by a friend who writes Life With Pink Princesses Blog. Her writing is very down to earth.
  2. Who would you invite to a dinner party? I’m not sure if this is famous people or people who are no longer here but my dinner party guests would include my mum, my grandads, Audrey Hepburn and Elvis Presley.
  3. If you had to give up one what would it be out of Tea, Coffee, Alcohol? Well I don’t like hot drinks so it would have to be Alcohol.
  4. Whats your favorite view? looking out on the beach with clear blue skies
  5. Who is your inspiration in life? My nan, she lived through the war , she is always a great support and seems to just get on with life.
  6. Whats the best piece of advise you’ve been given? its not what you know its who you know.
  7. What is at the top of your bucket list? visiting Thailand and Australia
  8. Is there anything you would do differently if you could? Yes Go to University.
  9. Whats the one place you would love to see if money were no object? If money was no object I would travel the world and see all the 7 wonders of the Earth.
  10. What would you do with a lottery win? Buy a house and a Mini BMW (5 door)
  11. How do you relax? I love reading and if I’m not reading I am knitting. These are both very relaxing.

It’s now time for me to nominate New blogs from around the interweb!

Who needs sleep part 4

Bear is actually sleeping really really well this week. I’m not sure why?

Maybe its because the mornings are slightly darker and autumn has kicked in.

Maybe he is actually eating more, and we have a lock on the kitchen door.(I found 4 wrappers of chocolate, two cake cases and a yogurt, the other morning!)

But this week it is Bell who isn’t sleeping. Bell was up last night every hour, crying for no reason. (checked temperature, pull up was dry, water cup was fall and the muslin was there)

I have ruled out night terrors as she isn’t in a deep enough sleep to get into a deep sleep for them to start. I have ruled out teething too!

I’m starting to wonder if she is going to bed over tired but she is going to bed at 6.30pm so its not actually late, I suppose it could be too early? But her bed time has always been 6.30-7pm.

Who knows!

I’m Hoping for a better night tonight so fingers crossed!!!

Being a Mother without a Mother

You problay guessed from my previous blog that I 100% think cancer sucks!

If you haven’t have a scroll down for a read…

This is problay one of the hardest posts I have written. But guess what people need to know what it’s like to be a mum without a Mother.  Yes I have family, my cousin is practically mummy number 2 to Bell and Bear. I have my aunts and grandmothers too to ask for advice but you know what as much as I adore them it’s so not the same picking up the phone or popping round to see your own mum.

Cancer has stolen so much, it’s stolen the connection of my mum watching me become a mum, watching her grandchildren grow and nature. Missed ny wedding day (but thats another post!) Having me phone up asking totally random questions, her offering to take a load of washing, or having the children during the day so I can do housework. Missing my mum seeing her grandchildren take their first step ladder, first word, first tooth, first day of school the list goes on and on.

It’s hard hearing people moan and complain and wish their mum would back of and let them bring up their children without any interference. Even though I know I would probably be the same too!

Some people say that being a parent changes you and you really don’t know the bond you actually feel when you have your own children. It’s very hard to comprehend especially when you are motherless or fatherless.

Each step your child makes, makes you think that someone is missing, someone should be there with you, other than your other half, husband or wife. It should be your mum.

When your feeling poorly and you struggle through the day when all you really want is to call your mum up and she comes straight over and tells you to go to bed.

Like I said I do have amazing cousins and my aunts but they work practically 24/7 So it’s very hard to be able to do this.

I feel guilty that my mother in law sees the children weekly, and my mum is missing out.

The world certainly changes, when your a mum I wouldn’t know if it would be easier if mum was here or not but if your mum is still about please don’t take leave her out of your children’s lives. You are so luckily she is offering to help, annoy you, buy the children endless amounts of sweets and magazines, clothes you may not like and give them junk food!

Let them have the relationship as my two certainly won’t have a relationship with my mum

People who haven’t lost a mum or dad (I mean this in the nicest of ways obviously!!) Really really do not understand the emotions going through the mind of somebody who has lost their mum or their father. It doesn’t matter how old you are when you lose your mum it 100% doesn’t get any easier, the pain may ease but it’s always and always will be the first and last thing you think about during your child’s day to day life’s.

Who needs sleep part 3

I think this week is going to be much better, I am not sure if its pure exhaustion or the nights and mornings are slowly drawing in who knows but I think this week will be better!

Day one week 2

Last night we had the usual bedtime routine bath and bed all by 7pm, and guess what Bear slept in until 5,30! I know that’s still early but it beats 4.30!

Day two week 2

What is happening! 4.30 am is seriously not a good time, we haven’t done anything different at all either! Bear is going to be moody today!

Day three week 2

Yay 6am! 6am! finally a decent hour, not sure why he got up at 4.30 am yesterday but yay!!! One happy mumma, shame Bell woke up 4 times in the night look’s like her turn to be moody!

day four week 2

5.45am, why oh why do the times keep changing! Just why? I need sleep, I turn moody and grumpy without sleep and I am trying to cut my sugar habit as well which isn’t going well

Day five week 2

Yay! 6.30am I could get used to this and Bell feel asleep at 9pm last night, what is going on with them if its not one its the other!

day 6 week 2

6.30am! yay this is better, Bear is 100% less grumpy and so is Bell! Bath time is at 6.30 and bed is at 7pm, I’m guessing its the whole new routine of school and nursery kicking in!

Day seven week 2

Oh great! 5.30 am from Bear, we were doing so so well too! Oh well week three will be a better week, but saying that this week has been pretty good!
