I think I have a OCD in dressing my children, I can not stand mix match Pjs or clothes which don’t go together.
It makes me feel uneasy.
I don’t know why, it just does! I know I should encourage independence in encouraging them choosing their own clothes but I can’t do it… not just yet.
I am very lucky that Bear is very laid back and seems to wear what I lay out. Bell too most days. I do give them choices don’t get me wrong. They can choose out of two or three outfits. Usually they mix and match so I make sure that they all go together in some way or another.
Bell is getting very independent and is a proper girlie girl and has mind of her own when she dresses herself!
Luckily she seems to make sure the clothes goes together, unlike Bear.
When Hubs gets the children ready for bed he seems to think mix match PJS are okay to wear… (they are but just not in our house) I have been known to wake the children up and redress them!
I sort of keep their clothes simple and almost 60%of their clothes go with everything eles they have.
Underwear etc for some reason do not need to match! Maybe because I can’t see it and we have done the whole toilet training where they ended up with mix match vest and pants by 10am…
I am dreading the time when Bell and Bear choose their own clothes and they don’t match!
Bear was around 18 months old, and we had a day shopping at our local shopping center.
Bear was very slow in talking, his speech didn’t really start until he was almost two years old and he would not stop talking or parrorting everything everybody was saying.
Bear had a growth spurt so we Popped out shopping as I didn’t have work, housework was done and to be honest I really needed to get out the house for a bit.
We had a slow walk around the shops, brought the essentials for Bear, spent the last of his birthday gift voucher and Popped into the Disney store.
Whilst we were walking round. Bear spotted the balloon stall, he kept pointing to the helicopter balloon and I said to him (this sounds like I’m a naggy mum but to be honest I really didn’t want to buy a balloon!!!) , if he could say Helicopter I would buy it for him, we went into another shop and then went to make our way home. On the way back we passed the balloon stall again and as clear as day Bear pronounced Helicopter as clear as day… and true to my word I brought the balloon. I was very proud as Helicopter is a very hard word to say at 19 months old!!!!
So my warning here is be careful what you say as it may leave you out of pocket….
I feel sad that Bear and Bell have to share a bedroom, I would so love them to have their own personal space where they can chill-out and have their own me time. Living in a flat is so hard at time’s, especially day’s when I know Bear want’s his own space and his own time now his getting bigger.
It is also hard to think about making a lovely bedroom for a boy and girl which won’t look odd, which they won’t grow out of and especially they both will like. I choose originally half pink and half blue bedroom which was nice but Bell and Bear drew on the walls! Hubby was in charge! Now they have white lining painted wall’s, beautiful Bunting and some of their stunning art work! It work’s really well.
When Bear was born I was very adamant that he wouldn’t have clothes, bedroom or bedding with character’s on such as Pepper Pig or Thomas the tank engine. I feel quite proud that he hardly had anything like that. Please do not get me wrong he had a few bit’s of Thomas the Tank clothing but that was about it. Same with Bell, she has a few Pepper Pig bits of clothing and Shoes but nothing over the top.
Please also do not get me wrong the Nightie and Pajamas draw is full of character’s such as Elsa from Frozen, Pepper pig, Spider-man and Toy story.
I don’t know why I don’t really like character clothing on children. It does look cute, but for me personally growing up their wasn’t a wide range of clothing like that, so I never had that type of clothing.
If Bell and Bear ask for something with Pepper Pig or Spider man I certainly will not say no, as it is their personal choice and I fully encourage their development of personal choice and independence.
I love Bell with all my heart but when I found out Bell was a girl, I was all excited that I would have a girly girl as I did all the Dinosaurs and train’s with Bear but nope ….
Bell LOVES dinosaurs!!!!
When I was growing up I went through the Dinosaur phase too! But they didn’t have the choice of clothing they have now.
In the 80’s girl’s clothes were dresses, fairy’s , princesses and animals. There were no Dinosaur clothing unless you went into the boy’s section and then little girl’s could wear a train top or a superman top!
So as you can imagine my Love of NEXT when I was browsing (by browsing I mean spending money I haven’t got two day’s before payday and sending it to my Nan’s house so Hubby doesn’t see!) I came across a Dinosaur Range!
Obviously I treated Bell to a Dino dress and Bear to a Angry bird top for holiday.
I love Next their clothes was up really well! Many people I speak to think Next is expensive but to be honest a dress like Bell is wearing in the photo only cost me £6 in Tesco or sainsbury’s the dress would of been around £4-5 .
Bell wear’s the dress as much as she can, she even made me Ironing it this morning so she could wear it!
Bell is already becoming very fussy in what she will wear, I’m sure I wasn’t like this when I was little.
Bell love’s her shoes and bags too! Maybe I should hope she will have the same size feet as me as she get’s bigger then I can borrow her shoes!!!!
I wonder if Next will send me another Dinosaur dress? I dout it but never mind of to Next I go!
